Every group in the TEDx Committee has made significant progress since the beginning of the project, but the work isn’t done. February is often considered the busiest month of the school year for all grade levels, but committee members continue to complete their assignments.
All members of the Content department under Creative Design were expected to fill out the “Speaker Preference” form to indicate which speaker they would like to work with for the next several weeks. Assumedly, each member of the Content Design department will be assigned one or two speakers after all members have filled out the form. Semilola Obayomi ‘23 and Eva Li ‘24 of the Content department continue to work on the Publication Ladder, a pamphlet for attendees, with the help of Project Director Yoyo Zhang ’24 and Assistant Director Annika Lee ’23, in addition to their other assignment. Thus far, this group of four has pooled reference images and has written up a short overview for each “page” of the ladder.
Members of the Visual Department under Creative Design branch off to complete several different projects, all of which are expected to bleed into spring break. The members need to organize all of their designs by dropping them into folders labeled with their creator and purpose. They also must create three t-shirt designs, for TEDx committee members, speakers, and audience members respectively, a project led by Emily Son ‘23. Additionally, they have to finalize the badges. Lastly, they must pick three of their designs to finalize and become stickers.
In addition to the members of the Content Department, all members of the Communications Department under Outreach are expected to fill out the Speaker Preference form. The Communications Department must also finish customizing the rejection emails, an assignment which has a hard deadline of February 22 at 4pm EST.
As the Visual Department creates the merch, the Business Department under Outreach is expected to work in conjunction with it.
All members of the Online Department under Tech continue to work on the website. First off, members of this committee need to get registered on WordPress in order to complete their work moving forward. As for the website itself, the home page and about page should be completed before spring break, and all other pages can be finished by the end of the break. Also, the Online Department has to finalize the list of media and content needed for the website from the Creative Design Department. This list ended up being completed by Peyton Li ‘25 with the help of Yoyo. While some of the elements on the list simply need to be put into the right hands, others will require work on the part of the Creative Design Department to create in the coming weeks.
The Production Department under Tech begins working on their plan for the event trailer. While the document for this was created by Spencer Bowls ‘22, Eric Yang ‘25 can take credit for drafting ideas and guidelines on said document while Yoyo provides links to some videos to take inspiration from. While assigned to the Production Department, Yoyo also stepped in to adjust the event day schedule to accommodate for a sixth speaker. Lastly, this department is expected to generate some venue ideas.
Looking to the future, Project Director Yoyo Zhang ’24 and Assistant Director Annika Lee ’23 announce to the group that some teams will meet over spring break, and everyone will continue to have assignments during the two weeks students have off from school.
